Revisiting Prince’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Guitar Solo
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just put out a higher quality version of the 2004 performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” featuring a bunch of great musicians, and Prince, who delivers one of the greatest live guitar solos ever.
Reclaiming the “Song of The Summer” with These 12 Songs
These aren't official "songs of the summer". They're a list that I've put together with some of my favorite alternate choices from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and today.
Re-examining Greta Van Fleet with The Battle At Garden’s Gate (2021)
This site is about taking from the past, modifying, transforming, and updating to make something that works for the present day. Greta Van Fleet should fit that philosophy perfectly. They have all the right ingredients to create a band that I would love. And yet, there's always been something about them that just didn't sit well with me. The Battle at Garden’s Gate changes that. Find out how.
Looking into Hill Country Blues with The Black Keys
The Black Keys are back with an album called Delta Kream that pays tribute to some of the great music that formed and shaped their music from the start: Mississippi Hill Country Blues. Hill Country Blues differs from Delta Blues in a few distinct ways, but has been nearly as influential. Find out more that and about this new album.
Liquid Tension Experiment 3 (2021)
Sometimes I want some good old fashioned rock and roll. Other times I want 2 hours of blistering, melodic, jazz-inspired progressive hard rock and metal featuring musicians that are so good they may be from another planet. That’s Liquid Tension Experiment.
A Return to Live Music with The Allman Betts Band
The Allman Betts Band 2021 tour stop in Omaha, Nebraska was the first live music I’ve seen in over a year. This was a perfect show to return to and the show fits into the Rock and Roll Reclaimed theme perfectly.
Chris Cornell: No One Sings Like You Anymore (2020)
Chris Cornell will be remembered among the great singers in rock and roll. Grand Funk Railroad: Live Album (1970)
Mark pays tribute to his dad on his birthday by highlighting an album that he tried to get Mark to listen to during his teenage years by comparing it to Metallica. Though not “like Metallica”, Grand Funk Railroad’s Live Album is a classic album full of great songs and inspiring vocals and guitar from Mark Farner that you should definitely check out.
The Mob Rules - Deluxe Reissue: Black Sabbath (1981/2021)
Black Sabbath has come back with a reissue of their two classic early 1980s albums featuring Ronnie James Dio: Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. I’m going to talk about Mob Rules here because it’s my favorite, but similar sentiments apply to both.
Death by Rock and Roll - The Pretty Reckless (2021)
This is the fourth album from The Pretty Reckless. Taylor Momsen and band have created what feels like the soundtrack to the past several years, from the passing of Chris Cornell in 2017 to a year of civil unrest, turmoil, and of course, pandemic. It’ll definitely be on my list of top new albums of 2021.
