The Busker Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Since we’re just a week removed from St. Patrick’s Day, I thought I’d try a new Irish whiskey this year: The Busker Single Malt Irish Whiskey.
Since this is the first “Now Drinking” post, I thought I should set a few expectations. This is not a critical review. I’m no whiskey expert and I have a very unrefined palate. I won’t be able to pick out boot leather or a hint of elderberries. Possibly crunchberries. What you’ll get here is a reasonably honest representation about how I feel about each whiskey I drink, not whether or not you should buy it. You should buy it. It’s whiskey! Here we go:
What’s it cost? I bought this bottle for less than $25 at my local liquor store.
How’s it smell? Actually kind of like a white wine - nice and gentle, which is NOT at all how it turned out.
How’s it taste? The first taste is a little rough and makes you think you’re not going to like it. It quickly redeems itself with some decent flavor. The finish is a little puzzling and stays with you for a while. It’s the Jaime Lannister of whiskeys.
Do I like it? It’s not even close to my favorite Irish whiskey, but I’d take it over a bottle of Jameson any day.
Perfect musical pairing: Since we’re still in March and it’s an Irish whiskey, I’m going to pair it with a great song from the greatest ever Irish rock band (sorry Bono). 1979’s Black Rose, from Thin Lizzy.
